The National Black Lawyers has named Larry Waters a Top 40 Lawyer Under 40 Years of Age in New York State. Larry works with the Health Equity Project (HELP) at NLS. HELP, a grant-funded partnership between NLS and Evergreen Health, provides Evergreen patients access to free civil legal counsel right at the clinic. Larry has advised clients in many different areas including disability benefits, student loans, evictions, utility shut-offs and those seeking family legal counsel.
For example, Larry worked with an Evergreen patient who was receiving little or no SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) benefits. Larry discovered that a Department of Social Services employee had entered the wrong code in his client’s budget. Once Larry corrected the error, his client’s SNAP food supplement went up by $500. This is just a sample of the work done by Larry.
