The problems at “Dani’s” apartment began almost immediately after moving in. The heat worked inconsistently, and then not at all. Then, she began to see rodent droppings and other evidence of infestation. Though she brought these issues to the attention of her landlord, he made no effort to remedy either situation, so she began to withhold the rent. Then she received her eviction notice. When she came to NLS, our advocates listened carefully and asked questions to get to the heart of the matter. Due to the multitude of issues, Dani determined that she didn’t want to remain in the apartment, but she needed more time to arrange a move. Armed with this goal in mind, the team negotiated with the landlord, buying her 6 weeks to vacate the apartment and removing the eviction from her record. Today, Dani is happily residing in a safe and secure (and rodent-free!) new apartment with her family.
