EDCAP assists New Yorkers with understanding and navigating student loan issues, including federal and private education debt. Counseling sessions are informational and focused on your specific situation.

This page outlines steps you can take to prepare for your counseling session in advance.

Before Your Appointment

To make the most of your session, it may be helpful to have access to the following information. If you are unable to locate everything listed below, you may still attend your appointment as scheduled.

 

FSA (Federal Student Aid) Account

Please try to log in to your FSA account at StudentAid.gov and note your username and password. If needed, you may retrieve or reset your login using the prompts on the site.

Student Aid

 

Loan Servicer Account

If you know who services your loans, try to log in to your loan servicer’s website. If you are unsure who your servicer is, this information is available in your FSA account dashboard or by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1‑800‑433‑3243.

 

What to Bring

If available, please have any loan‑related letters, statements, or notices you have received.

 

Cost and Confidentiality

EDCAP services are free, confidential, and provided through a New York State–funded program.
